Who We Are
Imani’s Safehouse Inc. – A Movement for Change
Imani’s Safehouse Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit empowering girls and women impacted by incarceration and generational trauma. We believe in transforming lives—moving from trauma to triumph—by breaking cycles of injustice and creating pathways to healing, autonomy, and empowerment.
Founded in Brooklyn, NY, Imani’s Safehouse was established in honor of Imani Fecu (Aviva Imuna), a beloved community member who tragically lost her life while fighting for the care and support she deserved. Her legacy fuels our mission—to ensure no woman is left behind, unheard, or without the resources needed to reclaim her future.
We are more than an organization—we are a movement. A collective force for change. A call to action. A commitment to justice and healing.

At Imani’s Safehouse, we believe that through community, empowerment, and access to resources, we can alter the trajectory of our life course—transforming pain into purpose, adversity into strength, and barriers into opportunities.
Our Mission
Empowering justice-impacted women through support, advocacy, and resources to foster autonomy, healing, and systemic change.
"Imani’s Safehouse Inc. is committed to breaking the cycles of violence, trauma, and incarceration by centering survivor autonomy and empowerment. We provide trauma-informed support, advocacy, and holistic care to ensure survivors reclaim their voices, assert their rights, and build lives beyond trauma. Through community-driven solutions, systemic change, and the belief in every survivor’s possibility, we dismantle the criminalization of trauma and create spaces where healing, justice, and liberation are not just ideals, but lived realities."

Our Vision
"We envision a world where no survivor is punished for their pain and where justice is rooted in equity, dignity, and transformation. Guided by Just Practice and Liberation Health frameworks, Imani’s Safehouse Inc. is dedicated to dismantling systemic barriers, amplifying silenced voices, and creating survivor-led solutions. Through policy reform, education, and holistic care, we work toward a future where all survivors have the support they need to heal, thrive, and live free from cycles of harm."
